I’ve had some success with aliases for this, but I’ve also tied myself in knots with them. Thankfully our azure-nextgen => native migration didn’t involve much code

Mine already has resources out in prod, Front Doors and various others, couple dozen per environment. Tried modifying stack.json directly but that was a nightmare.

Nextgen to native is already aliased. It should work for common scenarios, please report if it doesn’t.
