Note that a local backend is already in the product - which allows managing the state files however you want (copying them to GCS or S3 if needed).

First class support for Azure Blob Storage is being worked on in <https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/2026>, and we expect to extend that to other cloud storage systems after it lands.
