my ingress still doesn't have an IP associated to it, yet it works. is this azure's fault?

Are you perhaps setting an empty path for your ingress? We have an open bug for this - <https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-kubernetes/issues/369>.

aha - thanks. i guess my ingress-loadbalancer-never-gets-populated-with-an-ip is a separate issue entirely
