We use cloud backed storage (s3) instead of <http://pulumi.com|pulumi.com>, can we still use `pulumi.StackReference`?

Yes - I believe you can - though I believe it can only reference stacks stored in the same S3 backend storage currently.

Have you tried and hit an issue?

We have tried - within the same s3 backend storage - and just get unknown stack
