hmm, don't you normally specify your region in code? in my stacks I pass the region where I want them to be deployed.

aws:region

is part of your stack configuration (which it should be), you can just fetch it like any other configuration item: https://www.pulumi.com/docs/intro/concepts/config/#using-configuration-and-secrets-in-code
