There’s no “global” setting for turning that off, but you can override it on a per-resource basis and pick whichever name you like.. Letting it add that extension has some nice benefits though: https://www.pulumi.com/docs/intro/concepts/programming-model/#autonaming

AWS use the same arguments - but its very much an opinionated approach (a good and valid one). It takes no account of scope and as a consequence applies suffixes where it may be neither necessary nor desirable. To qualify, I'm old, and opinionated, and I like explicit... and I question whether I just haven't got with the disposable infrastructure thing properly yet 🙂
