Is it asking you to login to the pulumi console?

It does that to link your CLI to your Saas account

If you want to use the Pulumi Saas as your state backend.

You can use other backends and you can find out information about this here: <https://www.pulumi.com/docs/intro/concepts/state/>

the tl;dr is that you can use S3, Azure blob storage etc instead if you want (or even your local machine) but we advise using our SAAS backend as it offers extras such as state locking
