I tried to set an alias to the URN of the old provider the Role used. However, it still tries to replace the role.

Is the provider somehow special? The ignoreChanges also seem to only work with the Args and not the CustomResourceOptions.

you don't want the urn of the old provider, you want the urn of the current resource

so look in your stack for the urn of the role itself and put that when you add the provider

Only the provider changed, which means it should get the alias to the previous name, right?

the resources have also changed when you added the provider, which is why it's trying to do the replace
