I used the minimal python template (
pulumi new python
), and upon the first run (
pulumi up
), I'm getting this error:
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources'
f
You're probably running into a
setuptools
and
pkg_resources
issue with an older
pulumi
version? what does
pulumi version
return?
a
Copy code
» pulumi version
v3.268.0
BTW, I'm using
pulumiverse-zitadel>=0.2.0
in this project, installed via
uv add pulumiverse_zitadel
If I do not use
pulumiverse-zitadel
,
pulumi up
goes through
f
ok yeah it's def
pulumiverse_zitadel
It uses
pkg_resources
to read its own version string at import time.
pkg_resources
comes from setuptools, and
uv
-created venvs (like plain Python 3.12+ venvs) don’t include setuptools.
import pulumiverse_zitadel
fails with
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources'
. The provider should switch to
importlib.metadata
(worth opening an issue in their repo) You should be able to get around this and still use zitadel via:
uv add 'setuptools<81'
