Thanks I'll try. side-note: I really dislike the rich text feature in slack, I would have used one message but I got trapped in a code block and return sent the message. Then tapping up didn't get me to edit thus the message spew...

I think by default Slack does not automatically enter edit mode if you tap “up”. You have to type “e” while your focus is on the message you want to edit.
