I can resolve this by passing `--platform linux/amd64` to `extraOptions` when building the image

If the dockerized app can actually run on ARM64, why not take advantage of the better price/performance ratio?

It's a good suggestion, but not a reasonable short term solution

Unfortunately, this is an ongoing issue. There's a workaround at <https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-docker/issues/296#issuecomment-1030094518>, and you can add your vote and info to the issue there, as well.
