Yeh you just need an S3 bucket setup. You could use local file state to run Pulumi to create then, then store the rest of your stacks in S3.

as the other said, you can use an self managed backend, but you’ll lose a lot of the visibility and capabilities from the service. I’d love to try talk to you about using the service instead 🙂
