Yeah - Firecracker looks like it's internal virtualization technology, but not directly part of any product. Should hopefully show up as improved launch times, better performance, and lower cost for Lambda and Fargate. Plausible they'll offer it as a direct "instance type" in the future, but there was no indication that was happening any time soon.
For Pulumi - this just makes the same Lambda and Fargate compute that is really easy to work with from Pulumi even better!

I’m thinking about Firecracker as an alternative to Fn Project and other open source lamdba thingies… but it feels more flexible and less overhead than docker…

Agree - I think it could be really interesting as a foundation for building a new serverless compute platform.

i3.metal
has been around for a bit - it's bare metal though, which is why they use it there - non-bare metal instances don't support nested virtualization.
